1. Course Overview
Established in 1949, Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya (GAM), Puri, is one of the oldest and most prestigious government Ayurvedic institutions in India. Situated in the holy city of Puri, it has been designated as a “Model Institute” by the Government of India for its excellence in traditional medical education. The BAMS program here offers a deep immersion into classical Ayurvedic texts like the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, integrated with modern diagnostic techniques and surgical principles, preparing students for comprehensive healthcare service.
2. Course Duration & Structure
The BAMS course is a full-time professional program spanning 5.5 years (66 months):

Academic Curriculum (4.5 Years): Divided into professional phases as per NCISM regulations. Students study foundational subjects like Sharir Rachana (Anatomy), Sharir Kriya (Physiology), and Dravyaguna (Pharmacology), progressing to clinical specialties like Kayachikitsa (Medicine), Shalya Tantra (Surgery), and Panchakarma.

Compulsory Rotatory Internship (1 Year): A mandatory 12-month clinical training at the attached 150+ bed Government Ayurvedic Hospital, where students gain hands-on experience in patient care and traditional therapeutic procedures.
3. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Science) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB).

Minimum Marks: A minimum aggregate of 50% in PCB for General category candidates (40% for SC/ST and 45% for OBC candidates).

Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).

Age: Minimum 17 years by December 31st of the year of admission.
4. Admission Process
Admissions are processed through centralized counseling based on NEET merit:

NEET-UG: Qualify the national entrance exam.

Counseling Registration: Register with the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) for State Quota seats (85%) or AACCC for All India Quota seats (15%).

Choice Filling: Select “Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri” as the top preference.

Seat Allotment: Based on NEET rank and category reservation rules.

5. Medium of Instruction
Teaching is conducted in English and Odia/Hindi. As a traditional Sanskrit-based science, students are also taught Sanskrit to facilitate the authentic study of original Ayurvedic scriptures.
