Established in 2022-23 as part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s “Nadu-Nedu” initiative, Government Medical College, Vizianagaram, is a significant addition to the healthcare infrastructure of North Andhra. 1. Course Overview

The MBBS program at GMC Vizianagaram follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The course is designed to develop “Indian Medical Graduates” (IMGs) who possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding to provide comprehensive healthcare.

2. Course Duration & Structure

• Total Duration: 5.5 years.

• Academic Phases (4.5 Years):

  • Pre-clinical: Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry.

  • Para-clinical: Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine.

  • Clinical: General Medicine, Surgery, OBGYN, Pediatrics, and other specialties.

3. Eligibility Criteria

• Age: Minimum 17 years by December 31st of the year of admission.

• Academic Qualification: Completed 10+2 (Intermediate) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

• Minimum Marks: 50% aggregate in PCB subjects (40% for SC/ST/BC categories).

• Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in the NEET-UG national entrance exam.

4. Admission Process

Admission is strictly merit-based and conducted through centralized counseling:

• All India Quota (15%): Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

• State Quota (85%): Conducted by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences (YSRUHS).

• Seat Intake: 150 MBBS seats annually.
