1. Course Overview
SDM College of Ayurveda & Hospital, Udupi, is a premier flagship institution under the SDME Society, led by the visionary Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. Established in 1958, it is globally recognized as a center of excellence for Ayurvedic education and research. The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program here is designed to provide a rigorous academic foundation in “Shuddha Ayurveda” while integrating essential modern medical advancements. Located in the coastal town of Udupi, the college offers a disciplined “Gurukul” environment that emphasizes character building, clinical mastery, and scientific inquiry.
2. Course Duration & Structure
The BAMS program is a full-time residential degree spanning 5.5 years:

Academic Studies: 4.5 years divided into three professional phases (1.5 years each).

Compulsory Internship: 1 year of mandatory rotatory clinical internship in the attached 300-bed multispecialty hospital, which is NABH accredited and handles a high volume of patients.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must satisfy the following national and state-level requirements:

Educational Qualification: 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) as mandatory subjects from a recognized board.

Minimum Marks: Open category candidates must have at least 50% aggregate in PCB, while reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) require 40%.

Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) of the current academic year.
