1. Course Overview
The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), or “Ayurvedacharya,” is a professional undergraduate degree that integrates the study of traditional Ayurveda with modern medical systems. The curriculum at SDM Bengaluru is meticulously designed to develop proficient physicians, surgeons, and research scholars. Students gain deep insights into classical texts like the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita while mastering modern subjects such as Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine.
2. Course Duration & Structure
The BAMS program is a 5.5-year integrated course, strictly following the NCISM guidelines:

Academic Phase: 4.5 Years of intensive classroom instruction, advanced laboratory practicals, and clinical demonstrations divided into three professional phases.

Compulsory Internship: 1 Year of mandatory rotatory residential internship. Students apply their knowledge in the college’s attached 250-bed multispecialty hospital, which features 7 specialized OPD clusters and advanced diagnostic facilities.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates for the 2026-27 academic session must meet the following requirements:

Academic Qualification: Passed 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or 2nd PUC with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) as core subjects and English.

Minimum Marks: At least 50% aggregate in PCB for General/EWS category candidates (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Karnataka).

Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in the NEET-UG 2026 exam with a valid percentile as per NCISM norms.

Age: Minimum 17 years old by December 31st of the year of admission.
4. Admission Process
Admissions are merit-based and governed by centralized counseling:

NEET Qualification: Secure a valid rank in the NEET-UG entrance exam.

Counselling Registration: Register for the Karnataka State AYUSH NEET Counselling via the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) for state quota seats (85%).

All India Quota: Candidates can also apply through the AACCC (aaccc.gov.in) for the All India Quota seats (15%).

Seat Allotment & Reporting: Final admission is based on NEET rank and seat availability (Total Intake: 100 seats). Reporting to the college for document verification and fee payment is required.
5. Medium of Instruction
The primary medium of instruction and examination is English. Sanskrit is taught as a compulsory subject in the initial professional year to enable students to accurately interpret and understand the original Ayurvedic scriptures and shlokas.
