1. Course Overview
The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), or “Ayurvedacharya,” is a comprehensive professional undergraduate degree. The curriculum integrates the profound traditional knowledge of Ashtanga Ayurveda with essential modern medical sciences. At GAC Bilaspur, students are trained to master classical Ayurvedic therapies—such as Panchakarma and Ksharsutra—alongside modern clinical diagnostics, surgery, and pharmacology, preparing them for a versatile career in integrated healthcare.
2. Course Duration & Structure
The BAMS program is a 5.5-year integrated course, strictly following the NCISM guidelines:

Academic Phase: 4.5 Years of classroom instruction and advanced laboratory practicals divided into three professional phases.

Compulsory Internship: 1 Year of mandatory rotatory residential internship. Students gain hands-on clinical experience in the college’s attached 60-bed multispecialty hospital, rotating through various specialized Ayurvedic and modern medicine departments.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates for the 2026-27 academic session must fulfill the following requirements:

Academic Qualification: Passed 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) and English.

Minimum Marks: At least 50% aggregate in PCB for General/EWS candidates (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Chhattisgarh).

Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in NEET-UG 2026 with a valid percentile.

Domicile: Candidates must typically hold a valid domicile of Chhattisgarh for state quota seats.

Age: Minimum 17 years old by December 31st of the year of admission.
4. Admission Process
Admissions are merit-based and governed by the centralized counseling process:

Counselling Registration: Register for the Chhattisgarh State AYUSH Counselling conducted by the Directorate of AYUSH, Chhattisgarh (

Choice Filling: During the online counseling process, select “Govt. Ayurved College & Hospital, Bilaspur” as a preferred institution.

Seat Allotment: Based on NEET rank, category reservation, and available intake (Total Intake: 75 seats).

5. Medium of Instruction
The primary medium of instruction and examination is English and Hindi. Sanskrit is taught as a fundamental subject in the initial professional years to enable students to accurately interpret original Ayurvedic classical texts (Samhitas).
