1. Course Overview
The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), or “Ayurvedacharya,” is a comprehensive professional undergraduate degree. The curriculum at SMIAS is designed to integrate the profound traditional knowledge of Ashtanga Ayurveda with contemporary scientific advances in modern medicine. The program aims to produce efficient physicians and surgeons who are fully competent to serve in the modern healthcare landscape through extensive practical and clinical training.
2. Course Duration & Structure
The BAMS program is a 5.5-year course, adhering to the latest NCISM (National Commission for Indian System of Medicine) guidelines:

Academic Phase: 4.5 Years divided into three professional phases (18 months each), covering theoretical study and laboratory practicals.

Compulsory Internship: 1 Year of mandatory rotatory residential internship at the university’s attached 400-bed hospital, gaining hands-on clinical experience in various specialized departments.
3. Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates for the 2026 academic session must fulfill the following requirements:

Academic Qualification: Passed 10+2 (Higher Secondary) in Science stream (‘B’ group) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) and English.

Minimum Marks: At least 50% aggregate in PCB for General/EWS category candidates (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Gujarat).

Entrance Exam: Mandatory qualification in the NEET-UG 2026 exam with a valid percentile.
